March 5 - 7th, 2019 Regional District of Mount Waddington - BC Healthy Communities team is in town for the first of three consultative visits to the region to help us develop a collaborative strategy around housing.
The goal of this short project funded by the Mount Waddington Health Network is to create an action-oriented plan updates the Housing Needs Assessment that occurred in 2013, and add a strategy to that document so we can leverage it for funding and opportunities. There is also the collaborative goal to improve communication between organizations doing like work, find and understand funding opportunities, and link with local governments to develop strategies and incentives to bring off-market housing back into the stock in a beneficial way for everyone.
What BC Healthy Communities can do:
• Support organizations pursuing housing
• Recommend policy or program elements
• Improve collective action on housing
• Support opportunities for collaboration
• Help connect organizations with provincial
organizations and funders
• Recommend future action and a plan for
What BC Healthy Communities can’t do:
• Address and catalogue housing need
• Recommend housing types
Many people will see Sarah, Sandy and Lavleen out and about in the community, working hard to understand how was can create better living conditions and open up housing opportunities in the region. The information they gather can be used to work with BC Housing, and help us get ahead in the game to garnish governmental and funding support.
