Links to Employment & Economic Assistance for Communities During COVID-19

Below are additional resources for businesses and communities seeking information on guidelines for operating, as well as some upcoming webinars related to BCs Restart Plan and the WorkSafe BC Guidelines.

Below is an overview from the WorkSafe BCs website and from todays press release:

Today WorkSafeBC released industry-specific guidelines and resources for the following sectors:

  • restaurants, cafes and pubs

  • salons and personal services

  • museums, art galleries and libraries, real estate

  • education

  • health services

  • retail

  • in-person counselling

  • parks and outdoor spaces and

  • office space

Businesses in all sectors are required to use these guidelines and resources to develop their COVID-19 safety plans and post those plans for employees and customers as they resume operations.

Businesses in sectors under health orders limiting service (such as restaurants, pubs, salons and personal services) will not be able to open until those orders are lifted or modified.

WorkSafe BC has a Prevention Information line 1.888.621.7233 (1.888.621.SAFE). This number can be shared with businesses who have additional questions about developing their plan and what is expected of them. There is a general line that questions can be sent to as well consultationservices@worksafebc.com but for specifics related to plan development the phone number is preferred. WorkSafe staff are not approving plans but can assist businesses.

When putting together plans to control the risk of exposure in the workplace use the hierarchy of controls (ordered from the most to least effective).

  1. Eliminate Risk (e.g. work from home)

  2. Engineer spaces (e.g. plexiglass barriers)

  3. Administration (e.g. policies and workplace procedures around cleaning & disinfecting)

  4. Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. masks, gloves etc.)

Businesses should also contact their Industry Associations for specific resources. All guidance is coming from the foundational elements published by the Provincial Health Officer (PHO): https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/about-bc-s-health-care-system/office-of-the-provincial-health-officer/current-health-topics/covid-19-novel-coronavirus
